Flood Destroys Communication Access in Indonesia

Floods in Central Java and East Java of Indonesia have destroyed internet access in some areas.

Kasmadi, ICT Coordinator in Central Java said that big floods have destroyed areas in Central Java, such as wonogiri, Sukoharjo, Solo, Karanganyar, and Sragen, destroying 24 homes and claiming the lives of 65 people.

Indonesia seeks deeper telecom probe

Indonesia's anti-trust agency, KPPU, will escalate an investigation into alleged price-fixing of tariffs for mobile phone text messages, a member of KPPU's investigative team, quoted by a Reuters report, said.

The Reuters report said the KPPU's chairman said last week that the agency had launched a probe into alleged price fixing of tariffs for short message services to all operators. [more, americasnetwork]

Temasek Files Appeal Against Indonesian Ruling (Update1)

Dec. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Temasek Holdings Pte, a Singapore state-owned investment company, appealed against an Indonesian court ruling that said it broke antitrust laws through stakes in the country's two biggest mobile-phone operators.

The appeal was filed at the Central Jakarta District Court, Temasek said today in a statement. Indonesia's antitrust regulator on Dec. 5 ordered the company to sell its stake in either PT Telekomunikasi Selular or PT Indosat within two years. [more, bloomberg]

KPPU widens the net in mobile probe

Indonesia’s Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) has announced it is widening its probe into alleged price-fixing of SMS messages by eight of the country’s mobile operators, The Jakarta Post reports. Indonesia's Excelcomindo (XL) has signed a tower sharing deal with Hutchison Telecoms Indonesian subsidiary, PT Hutchison CP Telecommunications (HCPT). Indonesia's Indosat gets 228.5 million US dollar loan for satellite project

JAKARTA, Dec. 2, 2007 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) -- Indonesia's second biggest telecom company PT Indosat (NYSE:IIT) said Monday it has secured loans worth 228.5 million dollars to finance its Palapa-D satellite project.
